Find yourself the most suitable cross-country skis

When choosing cross-country skis, it is necessary to know in what technique, how often and where you are going to ski.

There are two techniques in cross-country skiing – classic skiing and skate skiing. Classic cross-country skiing similar to Nordic walking, only strides are longer and more gliding, and hand support is on the poles. Ski skating resembles skating, only this skate is very long and heel in the ski boot is always “free”. If you are skiing correctly, behind you there will remain a herringbone pattern in the snow.

The classic skis should be approximately 15-25 cm, and skis for skate skiing should be approximately 10 cm longer than the height. The longer the skis, the more gliding they are, but they also require from the skier a better technical performance. Skiers with height above 185 cm should choose the longest skis, because skis for classic cross-country skiing are manufactured with length up to 210 cm, and for skate skiing – up to 192 cm. Skiers with a bigger weight are recommended to choose longer skis.

For each ski model we have also added a table of sizes, on the basis of which you can choose the necessary size.

If you plan to ski at not prepared skiing areas, then you should choose hiking skis, but if you are going to ski at a prepared skiing track, then choose either classic or skate skiing skis.

When choosing cross-country skis, you definitely need to know how often you are going to ski or for what purpose you are going to buy the skis. If you ski rarely and do not intend to participate in skiing competitions, then we recommend to choose simpler skis, but if you plan to participate in competitions, then it is definitely worth buying skis that are as expensive as possible, which are suitable for achieving higher results.

If you choose to buy cross-country skis at our online store, we recommend you to read our article on how to choose cross-country skis. Please note that the skis are different and they have different uses. If you are not sure about your choice, feel free to contact our specialists.
